Breakfast at the Piz Gloria rotating restaurant

What a packed day! We came back up to our fairytale hotel and had a casual dinner down the way at another hotel restaurant. During our meal we happened across another Rick Steves tour! With laundry done and bellies full, we fell asleep to the stars and glistening snow capped mountains.

We began our next morning by taking another gondola up “Hollywood Way" to the Piz Gloria, a rotating restaurant atop the Schilthorn peak. The restaurant was featured in one of the James Bond movies. Some of the clips were playing in the background as we sat. Best view for a breakfast buffet ever. We lounged awhile as we took in the panoramic views, and then took a stroll out to the windy walkways and went down one gondola to try out the recently installed thrill walk. Slowly but surely we white-knuckled it all the way to solid ground amidst a thousand foot drop and view to die for. For those brave enough, a tightrope and tunnel were available to climb through to truly test out the “thrill” part of the walk. At the other end we witnessed pure awe. The vista stretched from the distant valley below that echoed with jingling cow bells to the distant peaks that framed the inspiration for JRR Tolkien and his Lord of the Rings epic saga.

Day 9

The rest of the day was ours to explore, so we went down and bussed around the varied corners of the valley. It did indeed feel like the halls of Rivendell as we passed the colored fields and light waterfalls cascading down. Speaking of which, we got to experience the pulsing power of the Trummelbachfalle. We had to practically yell to hear each other as we made our way up the cement stairs. We came out of the cave-like husk to see its clear stream of fresh water.

We trekked over to Lauterbrunnen where we found a quaint old church whose famous clock tower has made it to postcards. Cloud cover and a slight misty rain made for a dramatic moment that we were fortunate to have seen.
