For our final days before takeoff to the states we took the train over to Thun, a gem of a town that remains relatively undiscovered by tourists. It was a quiet and comfortable place to wind down and enjoy the landscape. Our hotel was conveniently placed right along the water, so a beautiful view was mere seconds away. It also had a full-blown spa and lounge which we were sure to take advantage of! During our walk around the hotel grounds we happened upon a neighboring residence, the exquisite Schloss Schadau - Château turned hotel restaurant. We made reservations for the evening and donned our finest apparel for the culinary experience ahead. They seated us outside with a caressing breeze as the sunset lined the distant mountains and shores in hues of pink, gold, and purple.

Our first exploration of the next day began with Schloss Thun, a mighty exhibition of all matters Medieval, whose great halls echoed with times bygone, and whose remnants of the past were displayed to impress upon us the reality of its inhabitants. We made our way into town and perused their myriad of quaint little shops before crossing a bridge to investigate an impromptu outside concert performed by a small string orchestra. With Mozart ringing in our ears, we uncovered the remaining unknowns of Thun’s main town before heading back to our hotel room.

On our second day, we headed over to Interlaken in the morning which was pretty close to our little mainstay. When we stepped off the bus we were immediately wrapped up in the flow of its commercial current. We took our time to explore all the curious shops before coming to one particular place, Funky Chocolate Club Switzerland. We had to go in. After that salivating experience, we bussed down the road to the famous St. Beatus caves! A thousand stairs later, we made it to the entrance and entered the caves shrouded in eerie mystique. All throughout there were illuminated passageways inaccessible by amateur spelunkers, stalagmites, and stalactites of a million plus years. It seemed almost alien which made it all the more thrilling. We raced down to the bus stop just in time and made it back to our hotel well exhausted from our goings on of the day.

The sad day finally came where we had to say goodbye to Switzerland as we took the train back to Zürich. Our once-in-a-lifetime epic journey had come to a close, but would be forever carried with us through our lives. Until next time.
